Representatives from seven fire districts will meet today (Wednesday) to continue discussion about a future consolidation. The talks are being facilitated by Nevada County Supervisor Hank Weston, who calls today’s gathering a ‘venting meeting’, and that no policy decisions will be made. Weston says Nevada County is very good at remembering things from the past, and it’s time to put all of that behind them…
Weston, who is a former fire chief, says he’s studied situations in other places, and believes those models can be adapted to Nevada County…
Weston says the talks continue to be exploratory, and will likely focus on each individual departments keeping their identity, with perhaps one chief to oversee all of them, and if the districts were to ever form one department, that would likely be way down the road. The fire departments involved in the talks are Grass Valley, Nevada City, Penn Valley, North San Juan, Higgins, Peardale-Chicago Park, and Nevada County Consolidated.
