Upton says you can’t file an appeal just because you think the fee is unfair, but there are several grounds where an appeal could be successful.

This year’s bills were supposed to go out April 2. No new date has been set, but Upton says they should have an update in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, there are several efforts in the legislature to get the fee repealed. State Senator Jim Nielsen, who represents western Nevada County, calls the fire fee an illegal tax. 800-thousand homeowners are subject to the fee statewide.
