Stromberg says bills for past fiscal years also have due dates after July 1st, and if not paid in a timely manner may also have penalties and interest assessed. But those with financial hardships from recent wildfires in Butte, Mariposa, and Santa Barbara Counties can file for relief from penalties and interest. The state collects $152 from homeowners who live in CalFire responsibility areas. But the vast majority, where homeowners also pay for a local firefighting district, pay $117.
