A fire in the Colfax area in Robbers Ravine east of Hwy 80 burned 200 acres by Wednesday evening, closed roads and led to evacuations.
Evacuations were in progress at 5:12 p.m. for homes off of Yankee Jim’s Road near the American River. Evacuations were in progress at 4:41 p.m. at the bottom of Shirtail Canyon Road. An evacuation center was being set up in the Veterans Hall in Foresthill. An evacuation warning was issued at 5:21 p.m. for Iowa Hill, the mountain community east of Colfax.
Road closures involve Just Road, Big Dipper Road, Glory Mound Road, Kings Hill, Brushy Bear, Brushy Creek Lane and Shirttail Canyon Road.
The fire was reported at 3:43 p.m. Wednesday, Cal Fire said.
Peardale/Chicago Park Fire, Nevada County Consolidated, Higgins Fire and Nevada City Fire are among agencies assisting in fighting the fire.
Tankers, helicopters and other resources are on scene.
