Fire Leaves Nevada City Family Homeless

A home fire in Nevada City has displaced a family of four just three days before Christmas. It was reported late Tuesday afternoon in the 200 block of Mill Street. The Deputy Chief of the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District, Jerry Funk, says when they arrived on the scene they found heavy fire and smoke conditions at the single story residence….

Funk says five small dogs and two cats died…

But Funk says the home can be rehabbed and made liveable again. He says the fire originated in the kitchen but a specific cause has not been determined. The Red Cross is assisting the family, whose names were not available.
