The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County is offering free Defensible Space Advisory Training in a two day class at the end of this month. Executive Director, Joanne Drummond says the class is more in-depth and prepares attendees to teach defensible space awareness.

Topics covered include: What is the law regarding defensible space, what may landowners do to protect their homes from wildfire, and additional information and resources. Drummond says most people come away from the class saying they have learned things they didn’t know before.

The Fire Safe Council puts on the training with their partners including local fire districts, insurance agents and UC Master Gardeners. Drummond says about 100 people have already gone through the training and about 60 work as volunteers providing defensible space site visits to property owners in the county.
