Applicants are required to qualify for the service, either as a senior citizen over 65 years old, or through medical disability. They must all meet income guidelines established by the Federal Government for Nevada County. The program provides up to eight hours of work for new clients and four hours for those receiving prior assistance. If you’re interested, you can apply on the Fire Safe Council’s web site or call them (at 272-1122). Drummond says there’s often a waiting list, as the weather gets warmer, but currently there is not.
