Fire Started at Transient Camp Site

A fire believed to have started in a transient’s camp was reported by neighbors in the area of Wyoming Street near Deer Creek  in Nevada City shortly after 1 o’clock this morning.  Nevada County Consolidated Battalion Chief Jerry Funk says they were joined by a CalFire engine and Nevada City Police.

Funk says the reporting party also said they heard an explosion and saw a man running from the scene.

The fire was contained quickly with no damage to any structures or reported injuries.  Firefighters found some propane cylinders and white gas for a lantern at the encampment. Nevada City Police are doing a follow up investigation.
