Fire Starting At Beale Scorches 867 Acres

A vegetation fire that began on Beale Air Force Base property Sunday afternoon scorched 867 unpopulated acres. About 300 acres that went up in smoke was on base property, with the remainder outside the base. Eldridge says no structures were threatened and there were no injuries. The fire originated near the northeast Grass Valley entrance to the base, on Chuck Yeager Road. The cause is unknown. Units from Wheatland, Olivehurst, Smartsville, Penn Valley, and Placer County also responded.
