In the local case, Fire Captain Specialist Douglas Mackey received the recognition for what happened on December 21, 2014, in Auburn. Mackey was on routine patrol, and heard a Sheriff’s call of gunfire in a residential area. He responded and learned that a lone gunman was holed up inside a house, shooting at officers and neighboring homes.
