It took an extra day this year, but Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital has welcomed the first baby born in 2017. Miles Henry Mathiasen arrived at 5:24am January 2, weighing in at eight pounds, one ounce, and 21 inches in length. This is the first child for parents Tine and Tavish Mathiasen…
Tine is a Nevada County native, and Tavish is from Gilroy. They met in college at Santa Cruz and moved back to Nevada County a couple of years ago. For being the first baby, Miles and his family received a red wagon full of baby items donated by local businesses.
The Mathiasens were just being discharged from the hospital when KNCO talked to Tine this afternoon (Thursday).
