I’ve had a few different jobs in my life. None as satisfying as radio. Most were related to selling stuff. My first job was sales at a card camera and gift shop. I sold cameras. The first thing the boss had to teach me was – when to stop selling. It’s a lesson that has helped in every other job I’ve held.
Last weekend there was a knock at the door. It was a guy raising money for a halfway house. To raise money he and his wife were painting house numbers on the curb in front of homes. The curb numbers on our curb were in desperate need of painting so it was the fastest sale he ever made. Or it would have been if he’d heard me say how much. Instead he was too wrapped up in his pitch about the halfway house. I actually had to say, “Stop Talking – I’m Sold!” He was thunderstruck that the sale had gone so fast.
The really good news…..they got the numbers right!
