It was historic moment, when the first COVID-19 vaccine was administered in Western Nevada County at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
The first recipient, Dr. Dawn Harris a Director in the Emergency Department and Chief Medical Officer for the hospital.*
Following her shot, while waiting the mandadory 15 minutes to be sure of no negative reactions, Dr. Harris says this is a momentus occasion for herself, health care workers, and the residents of Nevada County.*
Chief Operating Officer and Chief Nursing Officer, Lori Katterhagen, says as promised, the first round of vaccines are going to front line workers. Six were administered Tuesday evening.
The vaccines arrived at Tahoe Forest Hospital in Truckee last Thursday and because of stringent transportation protocols was transferred to Grass Valley yesterday afternoon. Another 174 vaccines are need to be administered before end of day Sunday. Another 250 vaccines will be transported this weekend for distribution next week.
