While seasonal flu cases are rising… it’s been an overall mild, or average, season in California, so far, according to Nevada County’s Health Officer,
Doctor Ken Cutler…
But there have been only three flu-related deaths so far, for people under 65 years old. And Cutler agrees that the weather could be a factor, since influenza spreads more when it’s cold and dry…
Thanks to El Nino, the winter has been warmer and wetter. Last year there were 78 deaths but two years ago there were 400 deaths. Meanwhile, the Nevada County Health Department is still offering free flu vaccinations. Cutler says it’s never too late to get one. He also says frequent hand washing with warm water and soap for 20 seconds is key in limiting the spread of the flu.
