Flu cases are rapidly rising in Nevada County. But County Health Officer, Doctor Ken Cutler, says that’s not unusual for this time of year…
Cutler says a year ago the spike in cases wasn’t quite as high but the flu season lingered longer into the spring months. He says there have been no serious cases recorded here for people under age 65. As you might expect, seniors are most susceptible, but statistics aren’t kept for that population. Cutler also says it’s a fairly common flu strain this season….
Cutler says at the peak of the season, about 35 to 40% of virus samples tested in public health labs turn positive for the flu. Right now it’s about 33%. Cutler says it’s not too late to get vaccinated, with plenty of doses still available. It’s usually takes around 2 weeks for a shot to take full effect.
