Probst says the drought HAS increased the number of crossings, with animals venturing further out in search of water. He says motorists should slow down in areas where they’ve seen or suspect wildlife darting suddenly across roads and highways. A number of prevention projects are being constructed, or are in the planning stages around the state, mostly undercrossings. The nearest one in this area is on Highway 193 between Lincoln and Newcastle, where visibilities on curves will also be improved on a one-mile stretch.
