Former Auburn Mayor Kirby Dies in Plane Crash

A plane crash over the weekend has taken the life of the former mayor of Auburn. According to reports, 72 year-old Bill Kirby was piloting the single-engine Cessna, when it crashed shortly after takeoff Saturday morning from Auburn Airport. Kirby was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger survived, reportedly escaping with minor injuries. Kirby had just resigned as mayor last week after some controversial comments about Trump supporters, but was going to remain on the City Council. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the cause of the crash.
