The Bennett Fire that got started around noontime today in an area behind Hills Flat Lumber has been burning in brush and timber and has grown to 6 to 7 acres, but fire officials say it looks life forward growth of the fire has been restricted.
Idaho-Maryland Road is being shut down from the Hwy 49 off ramp to Spring Hill to allow for equipment access and to keep the public out and safe.
15 engines, 2 Air Tankers, 2 helicopters, 1 hand crew are working the fire. Air tankers have been released.
Two helicopters are working to extinguish hot spots. Firefighters are asking the public to please stay out of the area, including the De Martini parking lot.
Forward progress of the fire has been stopped. Firefighters are picking up some of the spot fires.
Peardale-Chicago Park, Nevada County Consolidated, Grass Valley and Penn Valley Fire are assisting CAL FIRE with the Bennett Fire. The CHP is asking motorists not to stop on the Freeway to take pictures. It is creating a traffic hazard.
Employees at Hills Flat Lumber were placed under a voluntary evacuation, but most employees have stayed after getting all customers out of the area.
