This could be the last year for fireworks at the Fairgrounds for the Fourth of July. Organizers are saying it’s getting cost prohibitive to put on the event…
That’s Nevada City Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cathy Whittlesey. The Nevada City Chamber, along with the Greater Grass Valley Chamber and Grass Valley Downtown Association pay for the event, which requires months of planning. Whittlesey says costs have skyrocketed, including their Fire Marshal fee, which has doubled…
Whittlesey says this year’s budget adds up to about 45-thousand dollars. As a result, admission for the fireworks show is also going up from eight dollars to ten dollars in advance, and 15 dollars at the gate. The Chambers and Downtown Association are also looking for sponsors, anything from 50 dollars to several hundred. Anyone interested can call Whittlesey at the Nevada City Chamber.
