Fourth of July Travel Is Heaviest Since 2002

It looks like an even busier 4th of July travel period in California this year, especially with the 4th falling on a Monday. Triple-A says not since 2002 has the state experienced such a surge in people leaving town toward a destination more than 50 miles away. Spokesperson Cynthia Harris says that’s 4-point-9 million and attributes that mainly to the continued improvement of the economy…

And Harris says 3-point-9 million of those travellers are driving to the holiday destination, which she terms “exceptionally high” and 1-percent higher than a year ago. She says only the Thanksgiving travel period is busier than a 4th of July weekend…

Harris also says airfares to the Top 40 U-S destinations are expected to decrease by 9-percent, compared to last year.
