It’s less than two months until tax time, but it can be less taxing for people 60 and older, thanks to the A-A-R-P. The American Association of Retired Persons’ Tax-Aide program helps middle and lower-income older Californians prepare basic federal and state income tax returns–for free. Charee Gillins with ‘A-A-R-P California’ says they have three-thousand volunteer tax preparers ready to help at hundreds of sites around the state…
While the program is catered to those 60 and older, it’s open to everyone, and A-A-R-P membership is not required…
Gillins says walk-ins are welcome at some locations, but appointments are encouraged…
In Grass Valley, you can find help by appointment only Mondays from 9am to 3pm at the First Baptist Church on Ridge Road. (273-2273). Appointments are also taken in Truckee on Saturdays. Gillins says it’s important to bring all of your tax documents, including last year’s returns, along with Social Security cards or other official documentation for yourself and your dependents.
