The Freed Center for Independent Living has moved into their new location at 2059 Nevada City Highway suite 102 . Executive Director Ana Acton says their prior location on New Mohawk Road in Nevada city was no longer served by bus, and difficult for people with disabilities to get to. The new location is on a fixed bus route.

Acton says Freed serves about 1,000 clients yearly with wrap-around services and about 2,000 people with information and referrals. The client base is growing with the aging baby boomers who often need the same services as people with disabilities. To meet that growing need, Acton says Freed received a grant to implement an Aging and Disabliities Resource Connection, or A-D-R-C, which allows them to partner with several local agencies like Dial 211, Area 4 Agency on Aging, and Helpline.

Two more programs have sprung up from the A-D-R-C grant, one is Options Counseling.

Freed also operates a very successful Care Transitions Program with Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, designed to prevent hospital readmission by giving patients and their families the resources to be more knowledgeable and confident in self-managing their care after discharge from the hospital.
