Friends of Nevada County Military did something a little different this year for their exhibit at the fair. Instead of having visitors write notes to the troops, they had rows of pictures of military service members from Nevada County on display. Terry Richardson and his wife Kitty are regular volunteers with Friends of Nevada County Military and says they are still sending out monthly care packages to the troops deployed overseas.

The group currently has more than 700 members including family members, friends and neighbors of service men and women, veterans of former conflicts, and members of the community who are looking for a way to support our troops. They also work closely with the Marine Corps League, the Vietnam Veterans of America and the American Legion. Richardson says all are welcome to join their monthly packing parties.

A principal challenge for Friends of Nevada County Military is to identify men and women from Nevada County who are currently serving in the military.
