Hoping for forest restoration on an unprecedented scale, to reduce the wildfire danger, the North Yuba Forest Partnership was formed a year ago. It consists of a diverse group of nine organizations, including the South Yuba River Citizens League. And Executive Director, Melinda Booth says they’ve entered into an agreement to receive one-point-13 million dollars to launch the critical, but not inexpensive, planning process for various projects on 275-thousand acres over the next 20 years or so…
The funding originated from the U.S. Forest service’s Fireshed Program…
Planning includes assessments for wildlife, botany, cultural resources, and hydrology, as well as upcoming environmental review and analysis. Booth says a 15-thousand acre pilot project is already underway, with a couple of others also starting in the near future.
