Nevada County’s State Senator has sent a letter to President Trump. Ted Ganes is requesting that, in light of the Oroville Dam crisis, that Trump take action to conduct an immediate and thorough inspection of Folsom Dam. That includes the existing spillways, the soon-to-be-completed auxilary spillway, and all levees potentially affected by a dam failure or unregulated flows…
Gaines says the Oroville Dam main spillway damage and subsequent emergency spillway damage and flood potential have placed California’s water infrastructure at the forefront of national news…
Gaines is also asking the Trump Administration to expedite any federal requirement that could delay the necessary remedny. He says in 1986, in a year of heavy storms such as those that the north state has had this winter, Folsom released about 15,000 cubic feet per second above the safe capacity of the downstream levees. And in 1995, he says a spillway gate failed and released an unregulated flow of about 40,000 cubic feet per second in the American River, although it did occur in the summer, when lake levels are not at their highest.
