Gas Leak Behind JC Penney in Grass Valley

Fire officials are praising Grass Valley Police with their handling of a gas leak in the Pine Creek Shopping Center. Shortly after 5:30 last evening (PM Monday),  a gas main ruptured at the south end, behind JC Penney, The Dollar Tree and Foothill Mattress Company. Nevada County Consolidated Fire Battalion Chief Jim Turner says a Grass Valley Police Officer smelled natural gas in the parking lot, and did not let anybody start their cars…

Turner says several people were evacuated for a short time, but no one was hurt…

Firefighters tracked down the leak which was coming from a sheered off quarter inch natural gas  pipe connector.
