Gas Prices Spike In Time For Driving Season

About 6 months ago, gas prices had dropped below $2.10 a gallon. But now, the cheapest price is now above $2.80 in many areas of the North State, just in time for the Memorial Day weekend. And in just the last week and a half, prices have jumped as high as 35 cents at some stations. But Patrick De Haan, with Gas Buddy.com, says large spikes shouldn’t last longer than another week or two. He cites oil prices that have gone up about $6 a barrel…

As for the summer, De Haan says price increases should be more incremental and seasonal, that he doesn’t expect anything dramatic or volatile…

De Haan also says prices are, on average, statewide, about 20 cents higher than a year ago.
