Gay Activist Cleve Jones To Visit Grass Valley

A well-known gay and human rights activist will be in Grass Valley this weekend. Jones organized the AIDS memorial quilt, co-founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and also was part of the fight to overturn California’s Proposition 8, which would outlaw gay marriage. Chapter Vice President Pat Rose says Jones’ portrayal in the series ‘When We Rise’ made an impact on not only herself, but many others in the gay and lesbian community…

Jones wrote the book from which the miniseries is based, and is appearing at the fundraiser without getting paid. He will also hold a separate talk to teenagers who may not be able to afford the normal ticket prices. The event is at 7:30. There will also be a reception at 5:30 for an addition charge. It’s at the Unity in the Gold Country Church, 180 Cambridge Court, Grass Valley, off of Whispering Pine Lane.
