Those words were spoken by my Mom, in increasing volume, during my high school years. I wanted to stay up, visit with my older brother Bobby, already in the working world, and watching Johnny Carson. I did not want to miss Joan Emery from the San Diego Zoo or Carol Wayne and those Tea Time Movies!! Of course, staying up late meant too little sleep, and I was tired for high school classes. It’s not different today, but we never dreamed of moving the school day to a later start time. Heck, if they did that, I would just stay up a little later. There is no need to change the school day. It gets them prepared for life and working in the real world. I mean, look at me now. I wake up before 4am to get ready to wake people up on the radio at 6! (No late night TV for me)
