Was just down at Bear River High School, visiting with Patty Ehlers, officially the Activities Secretary, but really…she pretty much runs the place. You could see and feel the excitement from the kids, especially from the seniors, with the last week of the school year. And, just wanted to pass on my sincere congratulations to Duane Zauner, longtime coach for the Bruins. Actually, when I first met Duane, he was a coach with the NU JV football team back in the mid-80’s. When Bear River opened its doors, he moved to the South County, coaching the Bruins JV football teams…and the Varsity Baseball teams…and then taking over the Lady Bruin softball team. All his teams were very successful, not only on the field of play, but also in the classroom. So when the Lady Bruins won the Division III Sac-Joaquin Section title this past month, Duane would be the first to praise the efforts of his players. But anyone that either played the game or coached the kids know that he had a great deal to do with the team’s success. He could be considered the best coach in Bear River’s history. And as successful as he was coaching, he is even a better man. No one deserves to go out on a winning note more than Duane Zauner. All the best to you and yours, Duane.
