Gold Country Lenders Case Goes to Jury

Closing arguments have concluded in the Gold Country Lenders trial, and the case has now gone to the jury. Phillip Lester and Susan LaFerte, who are brother and sister, are accused of bilking investors out of over 3.2 million dollars over a period of eight years. The two were arrested in September of 2012, and face several charges, including using a scheme to defraud, and elder abuse. The two have also claimed indigence and have been using a public defender, which has cost the county an estimated 500-thousand dollars. There is no estimate on how long it could take the jury to deliberate.
