Government Shutdown Hits Beale AFB

The Government Shutdown is beginning to effect local entities.
While the civilian population is trying to figure out what the government shutdown means, its impact on Beale Air Force Base was announced today.

Base Commander Colonel Phil Stewart with that announcement this afternoon. One example of the impact is an office on base that is similar to the D-M-V, where personnel get identification and other paperwork, That office has had its staff cut from 14 people, down to 3. Stewart says another cut will affect over four thousand people who live or work on base.

Child care centers will remain open. Stewart says the mission at the base remains unaffected for now, but that could change if the shutdown continues for a longer period of time.
