Governor Approves Gaines Emergency Request

Governor Brown has approved additional resources and personnel for Siskiyou County to combat illegal marijuana grows, in response to a request from Nevada County’s state senator. A few weeks ago,Ted Gaines had asked the governor to declare a State of Emergency for what he described as an explosion of plantations. He says the small, rural county has only 4 officers in the sheriff’s department. He says he’s received word that numerous state agencies are coming in for the fall harvest season…

Gaines says a criminal, as well as environmental disaster is taking place there. He says organized crime is committing offenses on an industrial scale that’s killing soils and water, threatening ranches, and degrading the quality of life….

Gaines says agencies that will be helping out include the Highway Patrol, California National Guard, and California Department of Forestry. But he says even with the new resources it’s not nearly enough.
