Graduates Overcome Challenges

Nevada Joint Union High School District graduations began this week and yesterday evening, in the heat of the setting sun, Silver Springs High School, at the Park Avenue Alternative Learning Site in Grass Valley, celebrated the success of 46 graduates all of whom have demonstrated resiliency and determination overcoming seemingly insurmountably obstacles.

gradsIt’s estimated that at least 20% of the grads are the first in their family to graduate. A couple of graduates expressed common feelings of their classmates.

With more than 45 graduates for the second year in a row is a sign of continuing positive changes taking place at the Park Avenue site.
During his commencement address, Principal Marty Mathieson expressed his pleasure and gratitude the class of 2013.

Two young mothers, not included in the Silver Springs graduation count, successfully passed the GED and entered college this semester as well.

Ghidotti Early College High School graduated earlier this week, Bear River gradutes tonight, and Nevada Union commencement is tomorrow morning.
