Nevada County Supervisors need more guidance in making decisions on when to recuse themselves from meeting agenda items, according to a Grand Jury report. The report says, quote, “the Supervisors are ethical people who conduct their business with good intent”. But it also says, quote, “while a lack of public recusal by a Supervisor on an issue before the Board may be legal in the strict sense of law, it may give the public the perception of unethical behavior”. It goes on to say that the so-called Order and Decorum document is insufficient in assisting them. Supervisors’ Chairman Dan Miller says recusals are not very common…
Among recommendations made in the Grand Jury report are for supervisors to get more training and information. Miller says he doesn’t think the Order and Decorum guidelines need to be changed…
Miller says a formal Board response to the report will be made before the June deadline.
