Grass Valley Man Arrested In Two Hit Run Crashes

An argument with his mother sparked two hit-and-run accidents in Grass Valley Wednesday afternoon, with one causing injuries, with a local man arrested. Police Sergeant Brian Blakemore says 36-year-old John Thinnes’ mother was driving on Idaho Maryland Road when the dispute began with her son. She pulled over near Railroad Avenue, where the confrontation continued outside the car. Blakemore says Thinnes then pushed his mom to the ground and took off with her car at what he called a “reckless” speedā€¦

Blakemore says the male driver of the pickup, from Grass Valley, was not injured. But the 21-year-old male driver in the second vehicle and his 19-year-old girlfriend, both from Nevada City, were flown to Sutter Roseville Medical Center. He had multiple leg fractures, she was treated and released. Blakemore says Thinnes’ mother’s car became disabled soon after, so he took off on foot. He was arrested near his mother’s home Wednesday night on Pleasant Street. And he says Thinnes’ also disabled his own car Tuesday night in another non-injury hit and run collision on the overpass of the Highway 20/Golden Center Freeway Interchangeā€¦

Blakemore says Thinnes is currently only charged with the Wednesday crashes, which is hit and run causing injury and carjacking.
