Grass Valley Man Dies While Abalone Diving

(Sea Ranch, CA) — The man who died while diving for abalone near Sea Ranch on the Sonoma County coast is from Grass Valley. The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office says John Curtis was pronounced dead at the scene at Galleons Reach just off of Highway 1 Wednesday afternoon. The victim’s diving partner told investigators the man started struggling while diving and stopped breathing.
