Local Area to Become State Arts District

It’s a feather in the cap for Nevada County. The cities of Grass Valley and Nevada City are officially becoming one of the first Cultural Arts Districts in California. The California Arts Council has made that official in an announcement yesterday. The two cities worked on a joint bid, and Grass Valley Mayor, and artist, Howard Levine says that’s a great example of what can happen when multiple agencies work together….

The bid was put together by both city governments, the Chambers of Commerce, and the Nevada County Arts Council. The Cultural Arts District designation means about five thousand dollars a year in grant money for five years, but also brings with it prestige, the spread of awareness of the arts in the area, and hopefully tourism, which is an economic benefit…

Truckee put in a separate bid, and was also selected, making Nevada County the only county in the state with two Arts District designations.
