Grass Valley Police Department Promotions Ceremony

Two Grass Valley Police Officers were recognized with promotions during the Grass Valley City Council meeting last evening. Lt. Steve Johnson was promoted to Captain and Sgt. Joe Mattioni was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. Grass Valley Police Chief Alex Gammelgard says with the promotions, the police departments upper management positions are now filled.

Previously there was a Chief and two Lieutenants. Chief Gammelgard says with the new structure the duties are more clearly defined.

The Captain is responsible for investigative and administrative services.

Grass Valley police department is allocated to have 24 sworn positions, currently there are 21, which leaves three vacancies to be filled.
