The new law does make an exception for kids who are not yet 2 but who weigh at least 40 pounds or are at least 40 inches tall. That still does NOT apply to children 2 to 8 years old, who must remain in car or booster seats in the rear of a vehicle, unless the particular make of a vehicle does not allow it…

And since it’ll be another 16 months for the change in the law, Johnson says that will allow for a good awareness campaign. Warnings will also be given for a short period of time when the law does take effect.
