Grass Valley To Get Police Dog

Grass Valley will soon add a canine cop to its police ranks. The City Council unanimously approving the go ahead for the department to purchase the dog and associated equipment. Police Chief Alex Gammelgard says that the dog will be an integral part of the team.

The canine will also be able to track people and articles of clothing to help locate missing people and suspects. Gammelgard says the initial cost for the program will be around 90 thousand dollars, but a substantial portion of the funds are coming from a donation.

The remainder of the funds will come from developer impact fees set aside to increase and enhance police programs.

Gammelgard says his team will now begin the selection process and identfication a suitable dog for the program.
