The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is currently developing the Interregional Transportation Strategic Plan (ITSP), which is the long-range planning document that helps prioritize transportation projects across the state . Last week it was learned by Nevada County Transportation Commission Executive Director, Dan Landon, that State Routes 20 and 49 had been removed from the list. Since then he says Nevada County’s Senator Ted Gains and Assemblyman Brian Dahle have both submitted written comments to Caltrans.
Assemblyman Dahle asks, if funding priorities have not changed and only 32 percent of the deficiencies have been addressed, why are these interregional routes being dropped from the priorities?
The local group, Citizens for Highway 49 Safety, is also urging Caltrans to put S-R 49 back on the list so safety issues can continue to be improved.
Landon says he believes all these messages sent to Caltrans will make a difference.
The public comment period on the Draft 2015 Interregional Strategic Plan ends at the end of today (June 8). The public may view the document and make comments here.
