Guilty Plea In BLM Rally Violence

The case of one of the three men arrested for violence at the Black Lives Matter rally in Nevada City last summer has been resolved. Nevada County District Attorney Cliff Newell says 48-year-old Randy Matheson has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery. Meanwhile, the cases against the two other men are still pending. Joseph Alves, also 48 years old, is also facing a misdemeanor battery charge, for allegedly ripping a sign away from a demonstrator. But 40-year-old Steven Smith is charged with two felony assault counts and has been deemed by authorities to be one of the main aggressors during a number of scuffles that broke out that day, on August ninth.
