Guilty Verdict in Hyman Attempted Murder Trial

A Jury has found an Alta Sierra Man guilty of attempted murder for the shooting of his step son. 78 year old Morris Hyman shot his step son Thomas Demes in the garage of the home they shared on April 28 of last year. Hyman had claimed Demes came after him with a knife. Demes was shot twice in the back. The two had argued before the incident took place. The jury got the case at 3:15 yesterday afternoon and in less than two hours came back with a verdict at 5pm. The jury found Hyman guilty of attempted murder , assault with a firearm and found true the allegations of personal use of a firearm, intentional discharge of a firearm and great bodily injury. Sentencing is set for May 10th at 1pm. The defendant can be sentenced up to life in prison.
