GVPD Now Using Body-Worn Cameras

Police Chief Alex Gammelgard says they have 25 cameras, for approximately 24 officers, so there will be one or two that can be used as a backup if one needs to be repaired, or taken offline for any reason. Gammelgard says the cameras have three modes-‘off’, ‘record’, and ‘on’ mode, where the cameras will record video only, and only store the most recent 30 seconds…

The officer would then have to put the camera into record mode to get audio and further video. The video can then be stored on a cloud-based system…

The cameras were purchased in May, after a vote of approval from the City Council.
