Hate Speech Spike Reported At Nevada Union

A spike in racial and homophobic insults from students at Nevada Union High School, since the election of Donald Trump, is being reported. Interim Principal Kelly Rhoden says, like other campuses and areas of the country, it’s been occurring in pockets. But she says to keep it from possibly blowing up into something more serious, she’s sent memos to students, parents, and staff…

Rhoden says a lot of the inflammatory language comes in the form of remarks made by students on campus, as well as on the bus. There has also been some graffiti. The memos also include what kinds of punishment perpetrators could face….

Rhoden says she wants to ensure that the NU campus is a safe and secure place for all students. She says teachers have already been talking to their students about the issue this month.
