Head on collision on Hwy 49 near Independence Trail

A Head on accident that was called in to the California Highway patrol a little before 6:30 p.m. Wednesday  evening is still under investigation. CHP Officer Greg Tassone says it happened on Highway 49 between Independence Trail and South Yuba River crossing, involving a Jeep Wrangler and a Chevy pick-up truck.

One person was transported away from the scene and ultimately flown out from the Rood Center by helicopter to the Sutter Roseville trauma center.  The other party was taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Tassone says Cal Trans was also called out.

An investigation is still underway as to the cause of the accident and if the weather was a factor.
