For once in my life I am being serious. Just thought you’d like a straight story for once.
If you are reading this blog then you are on-line. There is a serious threat to your computer out there and I want you to be aware. This is a case of malware that has infected over a half million computers in the US. This malware could be in your computer and you wouldn’t be aware of it. It’s called the “DNSChanger” malware, and it hijacks the online server your computer connects to the the internet through. Your computer in essence become handcuffed to a different set of servers based in Estonia. These servers were impounded by the FBI and have been kept up and running because when there are shutdown, over 4 million computers worldwide (and a half million in the US) will be cut off from the internet. Removing the “DNSChanger” malware isn’t as simple as running a anti-virus program. This malware is buried deep in the computers electronic guts and will require an expert’s touch.
Now that I have you worried, there is a simple test to see if you are infected. Go to the following website:
If your computer is clear the background of this website will be green and will say “DNS Resolution = GREEN”. If it is red, get your computer to whoever you trust to remove this malware.
Why the rush? The government will be shutting these rouge servers down sometime this summer and if your computer is infected you won’t be able to get on-line. Unless you like a laptop paperweight, it’s just a thought.
