The golf course at Alta Sierra Country Club is open today, but there are questions about whether they are allowed to be. It was briefly shut down over the weekend. Don Bessie with the Alta Sierra Property Owners Association says the club shut the restaurant down when the shelter in place order was issued last month, but it was their belief the golf course was allowed to stay open…
The shutdown, which happened on Thursday, ironically happened at the same time that Placer County relaxed outdoor restrictions, and allowed their golf courses to open. Country Club President Charlie Ewing says he wasn’t there when the shutdown happened last week, but decided afterward to re-open the club…
Ewing says the supervisor was not Ed Scofield, which represents Alta Sierra, but Ewing said he called Scofield before re-opening the club. Sheriff’s officials say it was the Public Health Department and not the Sheriff’s Department that visited Alta Sierra on Thursday, and that golf courses are not essential businesses. Other golf courses in the county, including the Nevada County Country Club in Grass Valley, and the Lake Wildwood Country Club, are closed.
