Higgins Fire Station Stays Open This Winter

Marchinek says Station 23, off McCourtney Road, is the district’s largest, in terms of square footage, which would have meant slower response times for residents, if it had to come from the more distant Station 21, off Combie Road…

Station 22, off Morning Sun Lane, in the Dog Bar Road area, will remain unstaffed until further notice. That resulted in the layoffs of six firefighters on June 30th of last year. The District says it will continue to monitor and evaluate the needs of residents on an ongoing basis and may make more changes in the future, depending on available resources. It provoides fire protection, emergency, and medical services for an estimated 12-thousand residents in southern Nevada County.
